HAHAHAHAHAHA!

It's this game called Gnilley. You win by yelling. I want to play it. Perhaps I should invest in a microphone so that I can. I bet it's AMAZING for stress relief! (Though not so great for sore throats)

Last Wednesday Erica had picked up a pre-baked gingerbread house kit (Yeah, we totally cheated). Lindsey and I put it together on Christmas Eve. This was our first time ever decorating a gingerbread house, so it's a bit wonky, but rather cute if I do say so myself!

Sexy Gingerbread House! )

So...what's the protocol with gingerbread houses? Are you supposed to eat them after you're done displaying them?

Had some hours at the bookstore yesterday and Tuesday doing remote buybacks at Meier in the midst of students studying for finals and lining up at Dunkin' Donuts for their pre-test caffeine fixes. There was a lot of downtime, and I was able to almost finish reading a questionable translation of Aristophanes's Clouds that we had bought back.  I also wrote some haikus about my surroundings to keep myself entertained:

Coffee drinkers wait
the line at Dunks is endless
and so is their thirst

Students in blue chairs
studying the day away
drink away the night

Buying back old books
is a serious business
Seriously dull

Tick-tack-toe is great
circle set against the X
fighting for the square

What an ugly green
Those big chairs are atrocious
but comfy, I bet

Notice on the board
of what are you informing?
Probably nothing

Yeah, I do dumb stuff when I'm bored. I have more hours tomorrow, whoooo! Also. Winter Celebration of Choice Cards. I still need to make them, but will be sending them out as soon as I finish them. Sarah and Liane, you are already on my list for cards. If anybody else is interested in receiving one, let me know.

Made a bit of progress with rewriting Abaddon, but I got stuck roundabouts the same place I've always gotten stuck. So to unwind, I did some sketches (after fighting with my dying tablet to get it to work, arg).

Back from interview number two. Not...really sure how it went. Though they're really selective about who they hire, even though it's a temp position. It could probably go either way at this point, but I was told they'll get in contact with me. I guess that's a good sign?

I guess I was dressed nicely, at least, since another customer in Macy's thought I worked there haha. And now I have a winter coat. It is a lovely purple pea coat and I fell in love with it and t was half off and it's warm so I went for it. And I won't get paint on this one.

Been doing a bit of world building over the past few days. Figuring out the names of countries and peoples and towns that might become cities, and scratching the surface of cultures. Unfortunately, my NaNovel has been left in the dust. I'm going to try and get back into it before the end of the week, see if I can still catch up. I mean, I've still got half the month, I'm sure I can at least hit the 50k. But I also want to actually have an ending for this one haha.

The roomies got a chinese dwarf hamster yesterday. Her name is Peanut, and she is adorable. Runs really freaking fast, too. With her, the hedgehog and the betta fish, it's like we have a miniature exotic pets zoo.

I've started going back and rethinking a certain comic and many of its elements so much that it effected my dreams last night. At one point, I was seriously writing up a timeline of events for and leading up to the story itself, right in the middle of the dream. Which also seemed (very) loosely based in some of those same events.

And then I was on a flying power metal pirate ship, singing. Power metal songs. On a flying power metal pirate ship. And I was possibly singing in my sleep, which is very silly.

Oh, and I heard back from Borders. I'm going in to meet with the management to discuss the position on Tuesday. Huzzah!

Interview seemed to go well today. And it's full time. Yessssssss!
Almost lost it at the depot. Saw a guy that looked a LOT like my uncle from far away, was wearing a Salem State hoodie (my uncle was an alum), but then when the guy was closer, he didn't really look all that much like him anymore.
There were lots of older folks on the bus this morning.
Got some Christmas shopping done after the interview. Explored the North Shore Mall since I'm not as familiar with it. Probably just walked around three times before actually being able to do any shopping. It's a really nice place, though. And I have dress shoes now.
Sarah and Glenda found me after I got off the bus from the mall. We went grocery shopping, and I got some pineapple soda. Not sure how that's going to be.
Then we went to see Boondock Saints II with Tim. It was better than I expected. The dialogue in the beginning was a bit choppy and it tried way too hard to be badass, but it got snappier and funnier and generally better as it went.
I didn't write at all today. I kinda didn't feel like it after getting home. Maybe tomorrow.

That is my day in a nutshell.

I've been trying to give myself some time to sketch when I'm not sending out job applications or NaNoing.

So this might turn into a weekly art post thing... )

I was watching a bunch of old movies a while ago, starting with Nosferatu at my brother's recommendation and The Seventh Seal at Karen's. And I totally fell in love with the latter, so I've been trying to hunt down some more of Bergman's work. I can't help but feel like The Face/The Magician in some way inspired The Illustionist. Maybe it was Max van Sydow and Edward Norton's facial hair. Oh, and the whole magic performer thing. So hey, I'm all for more recommendations for old movies.

In other news, I have an interview at Borders on Tuesday. Hope that goes well.

I'm out. Keep it classy.

Okay, now that that's out of my system. Wow. I can't believe Halloween is this week. There are benefits to living on the outskirts of Salem, namely avoiding all tourist activity. Godspeed to anyone venturing into the center of town, however.

But Halloween this weekend also means NaNoWriMo starts on Sunday! And so does the end of daylight savings! DOUBLE YES. I should probably write up a synopsis of my NaNovel for my profile thing. So far, all I've got is "Girl moves into house with DOORS THAT LEAD TO SELF-CONTAINED WOOOOORLDS OOOOOOH!"

But of course, there's more to it than that (:

All signed up for this year's NoNoWriMo. The idea I was kicking around seems to be leaning towards young adult fantasy. Soooo anybody else going for it this year?

So the little comic I did last week made me realize how much I missed making them. I've been kicking around a few ideas for one-shots, but I've also gotten the urge to start ICIB, since it'd be in a similar style. I don't know if that's such a good idea, though. I mean, Abaddon's at a stand still, and I guess I figure I should tend to that one before jumping onto a new project? Though I suppose I could find some kind of balance and work on them both.

All I really know for sure is that I want to make comics again. Gah.

What do you get when the Gaslight Anthem covers one of my favorite songs by Hot Water Music?

THIS:

YES YES YES YES YES YES YESSSSSSSSS

This, my friends, is what they call an Org core wet dream.

OH, AND THIS IS WONDERFUL TOO!

Hit 5500 words with the short story, and it's still going. I am going to have SO much to cut from it after finishing and going back to do the second draft.

Anyway, happy October! The leaves are getting a tinge, though it's mostly still green outside. It's getting rather nippy out, though!

You know what? Writing is great. I've gotten a few thousand words written for a short story, the idea for which I've been kicking around for a little while, and I am having a blast. The freewriting is going surprisingly well, ideas are just coming to me! It's been a while since I've been able to do this. And I think I might actually end up finishing it. It's the furthest I've gotten writing a short story for quite some time. It's a bad habit I have, not finishing these things...but I think this time, it stands a chance!

I'm also very tempted to look over some older stuff to see if I can fix them up and finish the unfinished ones.

So I've been reading up on Etruscan gods as research for the universe of a certain relatively friendly neighborhood necromancer, and came across this very funny link  about Charun. Yessssssss.

It's fun delving back into a project that's been sitting on the back burner for a while. I'd been playing around with the rules of Iron's world over the weekend, but I have the events of the latest chapter of T.A. Pratt's Bone Shop to thank for the revived interest in Etruscan deities...since it lead me to look up haruspicy. And then the Etruscan connection from there. Yeah. I'm a nerd, I know, but the origins of these things are just so fascinating!

What's that? You haven't read Bone Shop yet? Well, you'd best fix that! And be sure to check out The Girl Who Circumnavigated Fairyland in a Ship of Her Own Making while you're at it! (Though I must admit, I haven't read the latest chapters of the latter yet, and I need to change that!)
